Phnom Penh: Pregnant worker Hang Kakada, who was fired by Sanfeng (Cambodia) Company Limited in the Manhattan Special Economic Zone in Bavet City, Svay Rieng Province, stakeholders including union representatives, factory representatives and the Department of Labor and Vocational Training of Svay Roeung Province together, resolved and reached an agreement to accept this worker back to work as normal.

As a result of the reconciliation between the parties on August 15, an agreement was reached between the parties, with the company agreeing to take Hang Kakada back to work as usual on August 16 and compensate her wages and other benefits under the labor law from the date of termination until the date of returning work.

The factory also agreed not to retaliate against Hang Kakada when she returns to work, while Hang Kakada also agreed to return to work on August 16 as promised and that she will comply with the company's internal regulations, employment contracts and labor laws.

At the same time, the President of Collective Union of Movement of Workers, Pav Sina, clearly stated that, "I observe that cases of discrimination against pregnant workers continue to occur, although this issue is being taken seriously by the Royal Government, The Ministry of Labor must thoroughly examine and take specific action against any company that is violating the labor law and the recommendations of the Cambodian leadership.

It should be noted that Hang Kakada was fired by San Feng Company Limited on May 31, 2023. The company called her and stated, “You do not have to come to work tomorrow because you are dismissed from the company" citing the fact that the worker was at fault in the old workplace. The company's actions seem to clearly show the intention to discriminate against the pregnant worker, in fact, the above dismissal is opposite to the entire labor law and in particular, seriously violates the recommendation of the Prime Minister, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, the Prime Minister of Cambodia, who pays close attention to pregnant workers.
