Phnom Penh: On August 14, 2024, the National Minimum Wage Council, in its third mandate and second year, held a meeting in Phnom Penh to discuss the minimum wage for workers in the textile, garment, footwear, and travel products sectors for 2025.

The meeting was chaired by Heng Sour, the Minister of Labor and Vocational Training and Chairman of the National Minimum Wage Council, at the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training. It included the participation of 51 members from the National Minimum Wage Council, ensuring equal representation from government officials, workers' representatives, and employers' representatives.

The meeting achieved the following results:

  1. The council presented key statistics based on seven social and economic criteria to the stakeholders as a basis for negotiating the minimum wage for 2025.
  2. Each party agreed to use the statistics and information presented to discuss their internal matters in order to reach a common position at the next meeting.
  3. The parties agreed to hold the next meetings on the mornings of August 29, September 6, 12, 19, and 26, 2024.

In 2024, the minimum wage for workers in the textile, garment, footwear, and travel bag industries will be $204 per month. With additional benefits, a worker can earn between $221 and $232 per month, not including other benefits provided by the Socialist Republic of Cambodia.
