Phnom Penh: President of CUMW, Pav Sina, asked the government and factory owners to consider providing benefits for suspended workers at a rate of at least 50 percent of the $200 minimum wage because the current $70 allowance, does not adequately meet the household economic needs of workers.

Pav Sina stated that the allowance of $70 per month for workers who have been suspended by the government and the factory owners is a good thing, but this figure does not yet meet the needs or addresses the workers' household economy, so the government and employers should consider providing a subsidy of 50% of the minimum wage to help the workers' economy when they are facing unemployment.

He stressed that "workers must receive at least 50% of the minimum wage. Employer contribution: $30 and the government should add $70 to make $100, equal to 50% of the minimum wage. Alternatively, employers could pay an additional $20 on top of the $50 severance pay to get at least 50% of the minimum wage to reduce the hardships of workers during unemployment. ”
