Phnom Penh: Pav Sina, president of the Collective Union of Movement of Workers (CUMW), said that employers' attempts to destroy independent unions are not profitable for companies, but only serve to worsen their reputation.

His remarks came after three of the more than 10 local union leaders at Jun Yip International Cambodia, a bag maker in Kampong Speu province that produces bags for Fossil, were fired after being elected to form a union.

Pav Sina said that three of the more than 10 local union leaders at Jun Yip International Cambodia had been fired, but that the rest were determined to continue fighting for their rights, even though they knew the company would likely fire them as well.

"I am amazed at your courage and determination. CUMW will do everything it can to demand that the company reinstate you," he said.

"Employers' attempts to destroy independent unions have not benefited the company, but have instead tarnished its reputation and led to a loss of business," he added.
